French Open: India’s campaign ends as Bopanna crashes out in men’s doubles

India’s journey at the French Open concluded as Rohan Bopanna and his Croatian partner, Franko Skugor, were defeated in the men’s doubles quarterfinal on Monday. The 41-year-old Bopanna and Skugor faced a 5-7, 3-6 defeat against the Spanish pair of Pablo Andujar and Pedro Martinez in a match lasting one hour and 17 minutes.

The unseeded Indo-Croat duo had advanced to the quarterfinals with a walkover in the pre-quarters, as their opponents, Matwe Middelkoop from the Netherlands and Marcelo Arevalo from El Salvador, withdrew from the competition.

The previous week saw setbacks in the opening rounds of the men’s and women’s doubles events for Divij Sharan and Ankita Raina, respectively. In the singles events, Sumit Nagal, Ramkumar Ramanathan, Prajnesh Guneswaran, and Ankita faced challenges and were unable to secure spots in the main draw.
